The Raspberry Pi Sense HAT V2 is the perfect product to learn about programming and how we interact with the world around us. With its full array of sensors, the Sense HAT was originally developed for use on the International Space Station, as part of the educational Astro Pi programme run by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in partnership with the European Space Agency.
It is well suited to many projects that require position, motion, orientation, or environmental sensing. The Sense HAT is powered by the Raspberry Pi computer to which it is connected.
An officially supported Python library provides access to all of the on-board sensors, the LED matrix, and the joystick. The Sense HAT is compatible with any Raspberry Pi computer with a 40-pin GPIO header.
HAT standoffs and fixings included! New Sense HAT Case now available!
Features
The Raspberry Pi Sense HAT V2 is attached on top of the Raspberry Pi via the 40-pin GPIO pins (which provide the data and power interface) to create an ‘Astro Pi’.
The Sense HAT has several integrated circuit based sensors can be used for many different types of experiments, applications, and even games.
The sensors enable you to read:
- Gyroscope
- Accelerometer
- Magnetometer
- Temperature
- Barometric pressure
- Humidity
- Colour and brightness
The LED Matrix enables you to display the data from the various sensors, it can show you which way is geomagnetic North by programming a compass using the magnetometer or simply be used to play games like Tetris, Pong and Snake with the joystick. The joystick can also be used to enable a human user to interact with the programs running on the Raspberry Pi Sense HAT.

The official Case for Raspberry Pi 5 comes with an integrated fan. HATs can be fitted directly on top of Raspberry Pi 5 by removing the fan, or on top of the fan by use of 14mm high standoffs and a 19mm GPIO extender. These are available separately from Authorised Resellers.
The integrated 2.79 (max) CFM fan has fluid dynamic bearings selected for low noise and an extended operating lifetime. Air is drawn in through a 360° slot under the lid and blown over a heatsink attached to the BCM2712, then exhausted through connector apertures and vents in the base.
Features
- Integrated, temperature-controlled cooling fan that connects to the fan connector on Raspberry Pi 5
- 12mm × 17mm × 4mm heatsink with self-adhesive pad improves heat transfer from the processor
- Easily removable lid exposes fan and breakout slot for cables and GPIO
- Integrated mounting features allow for case stacking
- HATs can be mounted to the enclosure with stand-offs and GPIO header extenders (not included)
- Four silicone feet for the case are included
Specifications
- Input voltage: 5V DC supplied via four-pin fan header on Raspberry Pi 5
- Fan speed control: Pulse width modulation control with tachometer
- Maximum airflow: 2.79 CFM
- Maximum fan speed: 8000 RPM +/- 15%
- Case material: ABS (base, frame, lid) and PC (fan assembly)

Case for Raspberry Pi 5 product brief and assembly instructions
The Active Cooler provides an alternative cooling solution for users who wish to use their Raspberry Pi 5 under sustained heavy load without a case. It combines a large metal heatsink with a variable-speed blower, again powered and controlled via the fan connector, and attaches to the Raspberry Pi 5 PCB via sprung pins into a pair of mounting holes.

The Active Cooler is a single-piece anodized aluminium heatsink with an integrated blower. It has pre-applied thermal pads for heat transfer, and is mounted to the Raspberry Pi 5 board directly using spring-loaded push pins. It is actively managed by the Raspberry Pi firmware:
- at 60°C the blower’s fan will be turned on
- at 67.5°C fan speed will be increased
- and finally at 75°C the fan increases to full speed.
When the temperature drops back below these limits, the blower’s fan will spin down automatically.
The product includes
- A single-piece anodized aluminium heatsink
- Heatsink-mounted, temperature-controlled fan
- 5V blower fan with max speed of 8000RPM
- Four wires: power, ground, PWM, and tachometer
- Spring-loaded push pins for mounting onto Raspberry Pi 5
- Pre-applied thermal pads for heat transfer
